US Secretary of State plans to visit Japan, China, South Korea

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is due to visit Japan, China, and South Korea this month to discuss North Korea.

It will be his first trip to the Northeastern region since he took up his post on February 1. Japan's Kyodo news agency, citing diplomatic sources, said Tillerson was expected in Japan on March 17-18 and would meet Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.

In China, he would meet Foreign Ministry Wang Yi and possibly President Xi Jinping, Kyodo reported, adding that the two sides were expected to arrange a meeting of Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump as early as April in the US.

In Seoul, Tillerson is expected to meet Foreign Minister Yun Byung Se. They will likely discuss North Korea's weapons program, Kyodo reported.
