US still believes in getting back into JCPOA with Iran

The United States remains confident in the revival of the 2015 nuclear accord, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, with Iran, according to a US official.

US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters that the US still believes in getting back into the JCPOA, stressing the importance of this historic agreement.

Kirby’s statement came as EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said negotiations to restore the 2015 nuclear deal would be resumed in the coming days. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said at a joint news conference in Tehran with Borrell that indirect talks between Iran and the US regarding the JCPOA would resume soon.

Since April 2021, Iran and the other signatories of the JCPOA have held several rounds of face-to-face negotiations in Vienna to restore the agreement. The US participates in indirect negotiations through the EU.
