US sues Russia over import taxes
The US filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against tariffs imposed by Moscow on some US imports, the trade body said on Wednesday.
The US said Russia's measures broke WTO rules by applying only to US imports and not to goods from any other country, and that the duty rates were higher than the maximum allowed under WTO membership terms. Russia now has 60 days to settle the dispute, after which the US could ask the WTO to set up a panel to adjudicate.
In July, Russia raised tariffs from 25 to 40 percent on a number of US products in response to Washington's tariffs on Russian steel and aluminum.
