US welcomes ECCC’s declaring Khmer Rouge regime guilty of genocide

The United States welcomed Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) declaring the Khmer Rouge regime guilty of genocide, saying the verdict was a warning to brutal criminals.

On Friday, the tribunal decided life imprisonment on Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan the last surviving Khmer Rouge leaders due to guilty of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The ECCC was set up by the United Nations and the Cambodian government in 2006 to try the Khmer Rouge leaders.
