Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia pledge to foster defense cooperation

Vietnamese Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang attended the annual meeting among the defense ministers of Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia in Vientiane, Laos, on September 14.

Addressing the event, Phan suggested the three nations enhance the sharing of strategic visions, maintain annual meetings between the three Defense Ministers and promote collaboration between their militaries in respond to non-traditional challenges.

 

He underscored the importance of educating and communicating the army and peoples, especially among youth, on the history, significance and solidarity of the three nations.

 

The Vietnamese minister called on the three nations to advocate each other at international and regional multi-lateral forums, particularly at ASEAN mechanisms such as the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus, in a bid to increase each side’s status and role.

 

Phan took the occasion to invite Lao and Cambodian Defense Ministers to attend an international defense exhibition to be held by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in Ha Noi this December.

 

At the meeting, the ministers discussed international and global issues of common concerns, pledging to foster coordination in the upcoming time, including delegation exchanges at all levels, organizing joint search and rescue exercises,

 

They vowed to join hands in combating transnational crimes and sharing information about hostile forces sabotaging their countries.

 

Earlier the same day, the high-ranking military delegation of Viet Nam took part in a ceremony marking the Laos-Viet Nam, Viet Nam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022 held by the Lao Ministry of National Defense.
