Vietnam accelerates communications on sea, island sovereignty
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved a project to raise public awareness of the need to safeguard sovereignty and sustainably develop Vietnam's sea and islands.
The project will be carried out in Vietnam's cities and provinces, some countries which have large communities of Vietnamese people, and countries with close ties to Vietnam.
The aim is to promulgate Party guidelines and State laws concerning Vietnam's sea and islands via the mass media, focusing on domestic policies and laws, international laws, bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements with countries and international organisations regarding seas and islands, historical and legal evidence affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagoes, and the role and potential of Vietnam's sea and islands.
The project also hopes to popularise marine economic development, oil and gas exploitation and processing, and coastal and sea tourism.
