Vietnam acknowledges UN support

On Monday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Coordinator, who came to say farewell before ending her term in Vietnam. Mr. Phuc said Vietnam acknowledges contributions of the international community, including the UN, to its socio-economic development. He thanked the UN for supporting Vietnam over the past 40 years.

Vietnam will fulfill its task as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and continue to participate in other UN activities including peacekeeping operations, sharing lessons in development, and the UN reform.

Ms. Mehta said the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon appreciated Vietnam's position in the UN, particularly in peace keeping activities as a member of the UN Human Rights Council in 2014-2016 period. She said Vietnam has gained trust and prestige internationally, specifically in implementing MDGs on poverty reduction. The UN will continue to accompany Vietnam to fulfill other goals in HIV prevention and environmental sustainable development.
