Vietnam on Sunday defeated Thailand 3-0 in a Group F match of the 2023 AFC U17 Asian Cup qualification, retaining their top position in the Group and qualifying for the final round. In the match in Viet Tri stadium, Phu Tho province, it took more than 10 minutes for Vietnam to regain the position and captain Cong Phuong gave the home team the lead from a free-kick close to the edge of the penalty area.

Not long after the opening goal, Long Vu extended Vietnam’s lead when he received the ball from his teammate Le Phat, breaking the offside trap and tricking the Thai goalkeeper.

Vietnam maintained a pressing tactic, making it difficult for Thailand to get on the ball. Thailand sent in a new striker in an attempt to change the status quo. But when the substitution was yet to take effect, Thailand conceded the third goal.

Five minutes before the halftime, striker Duc Thien made a decisive shot from the area outside the penalty box, defeating goalkeeper Tissanu.

Both teams did not score any goal in the second half before the last whistle of the referee.
