Vietnam assumes UNSC Presidency for second time in 2020-2021 tenure

Vietnam on Thursday began acting in its capacity as President of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for April, the second time Vietnam has assumed the post during its 2020-2021 tenure as a UNSC non-permanent member. On Thursday, the UNSC adopted the April Program of Work proposed by Vietnam, under which the Council will hold 15 open debates and 10 closed meetings to discuss security matters affecting the Middle East, Syria, Libya, and other areas.

The same day, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN, held a press conference to discuss the work of the UNSC, Vietnam’s priorities as UNSC President for April, and current hot spots.

An inter-sectoral working group convened on Thursday to review activities in the first quarter of 2021 and sketch out orientations for the coming quarter.
