Vietnam, Belgium issue joint statement

Vietnam and Belgium issued a joint statement during Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's visit to Belgium this week, agreeing to expand relations in diplomacy, economics, trade, education, and science.

The two countries pledged to increase cooperation at multilateral forums, and to support efforts by the international community to boost multilateralism, trade liberalization, economic links, and greater participation by developing countries in the world economy. Vietnamese and Belgian leaders agreed to strengthen relations between Vietnam and the EU, particularly in the framework of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA).

Vietnam and Belgium hailed efforts by ASEAN and China to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and ensure a prompt signing of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

Belgium supports Vietnam's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.
