Vietnam calls on countries to help Myanmar fight pandemic

Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son called on ASEAN countries and partners to work together to help Myanmar surmount the COVID-19 pandemic.

Son delivered a speech at a virtual meeting on humanitarian support for Myanmar chaired by ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi with the participation of ASEAN Foreign Ministers and representatives from ASEAN partners

 

Foreign Minister Son hailed the timely organization of humanitarian activities, affirming that it’s an important step in implementing ASEAN’s 5-point consensus. He acknowledged the effort of Dato Lim Jock Hoi, ASEAN Secretary-General and Coordinator for ASEAN’s humanitarian assistance, and the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance.

 

He said Vietnam will initially provide Myanmar with medical equipment worth 100,000 USD.

At the meeting, ASEAN countries and its partners pledged a total of 9 million USD for Myanmar.
