Vietnam, Cambodia issue joint statement

Vietnam and Cambodia on Tuesday issued a Joint Statement regarding Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong's State visit to Cambodia.

The two sides affirmed their determination to boost bilateral ties and praised the development of bilateral friendship and comprehensive cooperation saying it has contributed to peace and stability in the region and benefited their respective peoples. They agreed that protecting and promoting neighborliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation on the basis of principles mentioned in the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Statements is the responsibility of the two countries. They agreed to strengthen political ties, expand bilateral cooperation at all levels and work closely at joint events, as well as enhance communications and education following the tradition of bilateral ties. The two sides will boost cooperation in economics, culture, education, health care, science and technology and raise bilateral trade to 5 billion USD. They stressed the importance of cooperation in national defense and security on the principles of disallowing any political and military forces to use their territories to harm the other country's security and settling any arising problems by peaceful means. Vietnam thanked Cambodia for its support and equal treatment of Vietnamese people in Cambodia. They pledged to respect and fully implement border treaties and agreements, and praised the Joint Committee for completing 84% of border demarcation and border marker plantation. They agreed to share information and work together closely at international forums, particularly within ASEAN, the UN and Sub-region Mekong bodies. They stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea. The two sides signed 5 bilateral cooperation agreements during Mr. Trong's visit.
