Vietnam eyes stronger agricultural ties with China

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has lauded the partnership between the agricultural sectors of Vietnam and China over the past 70 years, particularly a number of recently signed agreements on farm produce trading.

During a reception for Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Changfu in Hanoi on Monday, Prime Minister Phuc noted Vietnam is China's biggest trade partner in ASEAN and called on China to help train Vietnamese agronomists.

He said Vietnam and China should continue working closely to raise both countries' fishermen's awareness of the memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation in protecting aquatic resources in the Gulf of Tonkin. He urged greater efforts to establish a hotline to deal with unexpected incidents relating to fishing activities at sea.

Minister Han said he is confident in closer agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and China, which will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties next year.
