Vietnam hopes to enhance cooperation with Global Environment Fund
Vietnam wants the Global Environment Fund (GEF) to continue helping the country address environment-related issues, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said during his reception for GEF CEO and Chairperson Naoko Ishii in Hanoi on Wednesday.
Mr. Phuc said he has assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate and help prepare the organisation for the GEF Assembly and related events.
Vietnam also wishes to receive GEF's help in implementing a forest ecosystem and production services, ensuring food security at the local level while implementing the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, and boosting green economy opportunities.
Ms. Ishii said Vietnam is seeing positive changes in tackling environmental issues and that GEF commits to supporting Vietnam to take the lead in the region in resolving environmental issues in the Mekong Delta and oceanic waste.
