Vietnam, Laos celebrate 60 years of diplomatic ties

The establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties on September 5, 1962, is a milestone marking new development in the 2 countries’ relations, said President Nguyen Xuan Phuc. In his speech celebrating 60 years of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties, President Phuc said bilateral relations, particularly in politics, diplomacy, defense and security and economics have grown strongly.

“With a solid relationship that has stood the test of time, Vietnam-Laos cooperation enjoys a lot of advantages to expand. Both countries are determined to preserve and consolidate political ties and make economic cooperation on par with our special relations,” said Mr. Phuc.

General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith said the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos in 1962 was a great diplomatic victory for the two countries’ revolutions, noting that it was the outcome of the struggle on both political and diplomatic fronts as well as the military front.

“The close bonds, great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation will stay forever with our two peoples. We are delighted to see our relations continue to grow strongly,” said Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith.

The Lao leader emphasised the need to educate the people, especially young generations, on the history of the bilateral friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
