Vietnam, New Zealand step up defence ties

Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang has highlighted the fruitful defence collaboration between Vietnam and New Zealand in various fields, matching the memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation signed by the two countries in 2013 and their comprehensive partnership.

Mr. Giang, who is Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, hosted a reception for Major General Tony Davies, Vice Chief of New Zealand's Defence Force, in Hanoi on Thursday.

Mr. Giang noted that defence ties have contributed to enhancing friendship between the armies of the two countries. General Davies applauded the achievements in socio-economic development and national defence that the Vietnamese people and army have recorded under the renewal process, adding that he hopes Vietnam will have continued success.

Earlier, General Davies held talks with General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.
