Vietnam ready for UN peacekeeping missions

Vietnam is poised to take over a UK field hospital in South Sudan next year as well as deploy a sapper unit for a UN mission in 2019, said the head of the Vietnam Peace Keeping Center.

Colonel Hoang Kim Phung told a UN fact-finding delegation in Hanoi on Monday that participating in peacekeeping activities provides further evidence that Vietnam is a responsible member of the international community.

We have prepared personnel for the field hospital and the sapper unit. They are to be trained over 9 months in order to successfully accomplish their duties, Phung elaborated.

The UN delegation is in Vietnam to review preparations for peacekeeping programs including personnel qualifications and equipment.
