Vietnam receives 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from COVAX

The Foreign Ministry held a ceremony in Hanoi on Monday to announce the reception of 1.5 million doses of Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX Facility, with assistance from the US. Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang thanked the COVAX Facility and the US administration and people for their timely support, as Vietnam accelerates its vaccination drive.

The assistance has helped Vietnam control the pandemic and safely adapt to the “new normal,” he said, adding that COVAX has been a major provider of COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnam, supplying 14 million doses so far. The US has been the top donor, and Vietnam’s largest supplier, with 7.5 million doses.

Christopher Klein, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Vietnam, said the US administration will continue to help Vietnam and other countries contain the pandemic and build back better.
