Vietnam, RoK forge closer ties

Politburo member Vo Van Thuong emphasized Vietnam’s policy of fostering strong relations with the Republic of Korea (RoK), saying that Vietnam creates optimal conditions for Korean investors and businesses. Mr. Thuong made the statement during a recent visit to the RoK where he met Speaker of the RoK National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo, leaders of the ruling People Power Party, and other officials.

Mr. Thuong asked Mr. Kim to support the exchange of delegations at all levels, closer economic, trade, labor, and investment collaboration, and a close partnership in health care and vaccines.

He asked that the RoK continue to support the stance of ASEAN and Vietnam on maintaining peace and cooperation in the East Sea (known internationally as the South China Sea).

Mr. Kim said the partnership with Vietnam is a model for RoK’s relations with other countries. Korea agrees, he said, with Vietnam on the importance of maintaining peace, security, and maritime and aviation freedom in line with the 1982 UNCLOS.
