Vietnam shares experience in ensuring workers’ rights

Vietnam shared its experience in ensuring the rights of workers and emphasized the importance of taking better care of them at an event held in New York on Thursday by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Group of Friends of Decent Work for Sustainable Development. Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Tra, Chargé d’Affaires of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, underscored the importance of harmonizing national legislation with international labor standards.

Ms. Tra said she believes that such harmonization will improve working conditions, protect workers’ rights, and promote effective economic cooperation between countries.

She highlighted the progress Vietnam has made in workers’ rights, including joining ILO conventions and adopting a revised Labor Code in 2019 which more closely matches international labor standards.

She also pointed out other changes Vietnam has made since joining the ILO conventions.

Ms. Tra said she welcomes any opportunity to learn from the experience of other countries, and promised that Vietnam will continue to cooperate with the ILO and other countries in promoting workers’ rights.
