Vietnam targets 42% forest coverage by 2020

Vietnam aims to increase nationwide forest coverage to 42% by 2020, according to the target program on sustainable forest development from until 2020 recently approved by the Prime Minister.

Vietnam expects to achieve up to 6% annual forestry production growth and fetch up to 8.5 billion USD from exports of wood and forestry products.

The sector eyes 25 million jobs with increased incomes, in order to reduce poverty and improve the lives of forestry workers.

The target program aims to protect forests, preserve nature, improve forest quality and productivity, and increase the added value of forest products.
