Vietnam to resume regular international route to Japan on January 5

Vietnam’s first regular international route to resume after a 2-year hiatus will be Vietnam Airlines flying to Japan on January 5 next year.

Vietjet Air and All Nippon Airways will restore flights one day later. The Transport Ministry said that it is impossible for this route to resume sooner, due to the Japanese New Year holiday which means that testing facilities are not operating. A ten-day quarantine on the Japanese side is still required, it said.

Chinese Taipei, Singapore, and Cambodia have also agreed to restore air routes with Vietnam.

As Vietnam Airlines has already been licensed to operate regular flights between Vietnam and the US, the carrier is cleared to immediately begin flights as planned and does not need any further approval.

Vietnam has yet received an official response from Thailand, South Korea, China and Laos.
