Vietnam treasures comprehensive partnership with US

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed US President Donald Trump's visit to Vietnam and the US and the DPRK's selection of Vietnam as the venue of their second summit on Wednesday and Thursday.

During talks with President Trump in the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on Wednesday, Mr. Trong reiterated Vietnam's consistent implementation of an external policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of external relations, and proactive international integration on the principle of mutual respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions. He also affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State's consistent policy of attaching great importance to developing the comprehensive partnership with the US. President Trump thanked Vietnam for its careful preparation for the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit despite of short notice. He added that the US will continue cooperating with Vietnam to promote their comprehensive partnership in a more pragmatic and effective manner.

Both leaders agreed on the need to maintain high-level delegation exchanges and consolidate the existing dialogue mechanisms. They voiced their support for continued cooperation to overcome war aftermaths, including the detoxification of contaminated land in Khanh Hoa airport, and increased economics-trade-investment ties on win-win basis.

Vietnam's top leader said Vietnam strongly supports dialogue process towards denuclearization and a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. President Trump said the US will continue to play an active role in the Indo-Pacific region to maintain law-based order and promote peace, stability, cooperation, and development in this important region. He invited Party leader and President Trong to pay an official visit to the US later this year to continue discussions on measures to deepen their comprehensive partnership.

After the talks, Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of four cooperation agreements between Vietnam and the US with a total value of about 21 billion USD
