Vietnam, UK strengthen cooperation in climate change response

A Communist Party of Vietnam delegation, led by head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh, paid a visit to the UK earlier this week. They met UK officials, namely Graham Stuart, Minister of State (Minister for Europe) at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Nigel Evans; Minister of State in the Cabinet Office Nigel Adams; Economic Secretary to the Treasury Richard Fuller; and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Britain Robert Griffiths.

Vietnamese officials also had working sessions with a series of UK agencies and organizations in the fields of energy, investment, finance, services, and digital transformation.

Mr. Tuan Anh chaired the dialogue on strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the UK in the context of Industrial Revolution 4.0, Digital Transformation and Green Shift. The delegation visited President Ho Chi Minh Monument in London and the Vietnamese Embassy and met the staff of the Vietnamese representative missions in the UK.

Leaders of the British Government and Parliament said Vietnam is the UK’s important partner in the region and that the strategic partnership between the two countries continues a very positive momentum, especially since the UK-Vietnam free trade agreement (UVKFTA) was signed and put into effect. The British business community expressed their belief that the visit will make an important contribution to conducting market surveys to promote investment cooperation in Vietnam in renewable energy, especially offshore wind power.

Economic and financial agencies of the British government as well as British financial, credit and banking institutions expressed their strong support for and willingness to contribute financial resources to realize Vietnam’s economic policies. In particular, British partners said they are ready to support and cooperate in specific projects in Vietnam to deliver on the commitments of the two countries’ senior leaders in climate change, renewable energy, marine economy, green energy transition, digital transformation, production and manufacturing, and domestic supply chain.
