Vietnam, US join efforts to heal wounds of war

The Vietnamese Embassy in the US held a ceremony in Washington on Tuesday to hand over a documentary DVD on retrieving the remains of Navy Commander James B.Mills.

The DVD was given to Ann Mills-Griffiths, Chairwoman and CEO of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia.

James B. Mills is Griffiths' older brother, who died in an airplane crash in the waters of Nghe An province, Vietnam.

Ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc said the film demonstrates the Vietnamese government's recognition of the efforts of Ms. Griffiths and POW/MIA to overcome the consequences of the war and boost cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and the US.

Griffiths said the gesture is important to her family and all American families whose young men went missing in action during the Vietnam War. She said the retrieval failed many times and her family used to think they would never have her brother's remains.
