Vietnam will receive 2 million doses of Moderna vaccine this week

The White House on Tuesday said Vietnam will receive 2 million doses of Moderna vaccine from the Biden-Harris administration this week.

The 2 million doses are the first shipment of vaccines being delivered to Southeast Asia countries and are part of the first 80 million doses of vaccine that President Joe Biden pledged to help countries around the world. The vaccine batch destined for Vietnam is distributed through the WHO Covax initiative, whose the goal is to ensure universal immunization equality and end the pandemic.

The US already sent 1 million doses of vaccine to Malaysia on Monday and will soon send 4 million doses of vaccine to Indonesia. Other countries in the region expected to receive the US vaccine include Cambodia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Thailand.
