VGP – Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh on September 8 hosted a reception for Brigadier John Mackenzie from the International Policy Division of the Australian Department of Defence.

Speaking at the reception, Mr. Vinh spoke highly of the working groups set up between the Vietnamese and Australian armies to cooperate on peace keeping, counter-terrorism, personnel training, and maritime safety.

Vinh proposed both sides increase exchanges of high-ranking delegations and share experience in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

He further suggested intensifying staff training and collaboration in bilateral and multilateral forums.

For his part, Mr. Mackenzie said Australia will work to foster defence cooperation with Viet Nam, including training officers, addressing the consequences of unexploded ordnances, and tackling other issues of mutual concern.
