Vietnamese, Lao youths urged to nurture bilateral ties

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong met with lecturers, students, and staff of the National University of Laos in Vientiane on Friday as part of his ongoing visit there. The meeting was broadcast live on radio and television.

In a 30-minute speech, Mr. Trong focused on the Vietnamese-Lao special relationship, underlining the role of the younger generations.

"The coordination and mutual assistance between the two nations helped to make the revolution of each country a success. Sacrifices made for each other were a great source of encouragement for their two revolutions. The image of Vietnam and Laos' sharing the basic necessities for survival is a timeless symbol of their close friendship during a most difficult period," Party leader Trong said.

Mr. Trong said that during his talks with Lao leaders, both sides stressed their special solidarity calling it an invaluable asset of Vietnam and Laos. The Party leader emphasized that Vietnam and Laos have enjoyed impressive economic achievements, greater political and social stability, and improved status internationally.

According to Mr. Trong, "these achievements are clear evidence that the right path was chosen by both Parties. Based on the lessons of the 30-year renewal process, we strongly believe that the resolutions of their Parties will turn Vietnam and Laos into more prosperous nations and improve their people's lives."

He hailed the role of young people in preserving and developing bilateral relations: "I hope young people will study hard and practice so that they can help industrialization and modernization succeed in both countries. Vietnamese and Lao leaders believe that today's younger generation and future generations will respect and uphold the honorable history of the two Parties, States, and peoples."

On this occasion, Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong presented 30 computers to the university.
