Vietnamese Professor Ngo Bao Chau and three other distinguished mathematicians who are not fulltime UK residents have been elected Honorary Members of the London Mathematical Society (LMS) for 2021. The other members elected this year are Professor Laure Saint-Raymond of France’s Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES), Professor Peter Sarnak of the Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton, USA, and Professor Ya-xiang Yuan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) remains committed to humanitarian assistance for North Korea and ready to resume suspended projects there as soon as the coronavirus situation improves, said the head of the ICRC office in Seoul.

In an interview with Yonhap News Agency, David Maizlish noted North Korea’s recent willingness to cooperate with the ICRC and other global humanitarian organizations despite its prolonged border closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

North Korea claims to be coronavirus-free but taking stringent measures, including a border closure since early last year.
