Vietnamese top leaders receive Japanese Prime Minister

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's revisit to Vietnam amidst the flourishing extensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

At a reception in Hanoi on Monday, Mr. Trong reiterated Vietnam's unswerving policy of respecting the relationship with Japan. He suggested that both sides increase political trust through exchanges of visits by leaders of the State, Government, and National Assembly of Vietnam and Japan.

President Tran Dai Quang received Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Hanoi on Monday. He said Vietnam treasures its relations with Japan and considers it a top priority Vietnam's foreign policy.

The President called for more exchanges of visit between ministries, companies and people and called for mutual support in international fora, especially at the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC and ASEM. Prime Minister Abe said Japan considers the upcoming visit to Vietnam by the Japanese Emperor scheduled for this March as a symbol of bilateral friendship and cooperation. She asked Japan to continue offering Official Development Assistance to support Vietnam's social economic development, key national projects, energy and climate change adaptation projects. She called for more exchanges of visit between the two legislatures and senior visits between the two governments.

Prime Minister Abe pledged to contribute more to Vietnam's social economic development, especially in infrastructure development and the prevention of salt intrusion in the Mekong Delta. He expected to receive the Vietnamese National Assembly's support so that both governments would successfully implement signed agreements. Prime Minister Abe said he always support Vietnam in the East Sea issue on the basis of respecting international law.
