Vietnam’s popular opera tours Europe

Artists from the Hanoi Cheo Theater are on a 10-day tour of Europe to promote Cheo or popular opera, a traditional folk genre of Vietnam.

European viewers are treated to classic Cheo plays and performances of typical Vietnamese genres like Xam singing, ceremonial singing, and Quan ho love duets. Trinh Thuy Mui, Director of the Hanoi Cheo Theater, told VOV: The tour is part of Hanoi's plan to popularize traditional art genres recognized by UNESCO as a world intangible heritage. It also aims to tighten the bond between overseas Vietnamese with their homeland.

The tour will visit the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Austria and Hungary.
