VN, Brazil hold political consultation

The 4th political consultation between Viet Nam and Brazil took place in Brazil from June 29-30.

During the event, chaired by Vietnamese Deputy FM Ha Kim Ngoc and his Brazilian counterpart Georges LamaziAre, both sides agreed that this kind of consultation should be maintained to work out measures to deepen the Viet Nam-Brazil relations.

The two sides expressed pleasure at the positive advancement of the bilateral trade ties, reaching US$3 billion in 2016, up 30% from 2013.

Both sides, however, said potential for bilateral cooperation remains vast, especially in such fields like agriculture, processing, energy, biotechnology, aviation, and infrastructure development.

The pair agreed to continue accelerating the exchange of delegation at all levels, working together to sign agreements on investment encouragement and protection and avoidance of double taxation in order to gradually improve legal framework for bilateral ties.

Both sides vowed to create favorable conditions for their businesses to seek opportunities and partnerships.

Regarding multilateral aspect, the two sides highly valued their close coordination at international forums like the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.

The Brazilian side vowed to support Viet Nam to enhance cooperation with the Latin America while Viet Nam pledged to back Brazil to boost cooperation with Southeast Asia.

The two sides also shared the position of supporting settlement of territorial disputes through dialogues and peaceful measures in line with international laws, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea./.
