VN, Spain head to trade value of Euros 5 billion by 2020

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Alfonso Dastis affirmed that the Spanish Government attaches importance to the relationship with Viet Nam at his talks with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on May 23 on the occasion of the latter's official visit to Spain from May 23-25.

The leaders hailed the two nations' Strategic Partnership which was set up in 2009 and the two-way trade value of nearly Euros 3 billion in 2016.

They consented to strengthen delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-ranking ones, launch diplomatic dialogue mechanisms, defense security and political consultations at deputy-ministerial level and effectively implement the fifth financial program which was signed at the first session of the Joint Committee on economic, trade and investment cooperation, striving to raise the two-way value to Euros 5 billion by 2020.

They appraised the two nations' ministries and agencies to organize crucial events on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the organization of the Viet Nam Day in Spain.

Deputy PM Minh thanked the assistance of the Spanish Government for Viet Nam through financial programs, affirming to coordinate with Spain to concertize the Strategic Partnership in all fields of infrastructure, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture and environment.

Viet Nam is willing to facilitate foreign businesses, including the Spanish ones, to launch investment and operation in Viet Nam, he affirmed.

Minister Alfonso Dastis referred to the number of more than 58,000 Spanish visitors to Viet Nam in 2016 and trade and investment promotion activities over the recent two years.

The two sides discussed issues of mutual concerns, asserting to continue close cooperation at international and regional forums.

Spain confirmed that it will advocate Viet Nam developing Comprehensive Partnership with the EU and the signing and approval of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement as well as support Viet Nam to get access to favorable financial resources of the International Development Association (IDA) post 2017.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Spain shared viewpoints of Viet Nam and ASEAN in addressing disputes with peaceful measures, strictly following the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 and the Conduct of the Parties in the East Sea (DOC), heading to the building of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

Earlier on May 23, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh met with King Felipe VI.

At the meeting, the King highlighted the two nations' Strategic Partnership set up in 2009, as having contributed to enhancing political trust, creating a comprehensive framework and promoting the two sides' multi-faceted relations.

He expected that the two countries will strengthen cooperation in such areas as politics, economics, education-training, national security and defense, affirming that Spain supports Viet Nam to uphold its status in the region and in the world.

The occasion, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh respectively conveyed State President Tran Dai Quang's invitation to the Spanish King to pay a visit to Viet Nam.

King Felipe VI hoped that the Viet Nam Day in Spain will be successful and asserted he will visit Viet Nam in an appropriate time.
