WikiLeaks founder appears in UK court

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange appeared in Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Monday in an effort to avoid US extradition.

He was escorted there from Belmarsh prison on the outskirts of London. Many of his supporters appeared outside the courthouse. Assange and his lawyer complained during the hearing that they hadn't been given enough time to meet and prepare before facing the extradition request from the US.

A 5-day hearing to address Assange's extradition will take place as scheduled at the end of February. His legal team's request to delay the hearing was rejected.
