Winners of U23 Southeast Asian championship get warm welcome home

The Vietnamese U23 football team received a warm welcome home in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday evening after winning the U23 Southeast Asian championship in Cambodia. In the final match on Saturday evening, striker Tran Bao Toan’s header goal enabled Vietnam to beat Thailand 1-0 and clinch the championship. Dinh The Nam, head coach of the Vietnam U23 football team, told the welcome ceremony:  “Thank you, Vietnamese football fans and Vietnamese people living in Cambodia, for your enthusiastic support. Businesses in Cambodia gave us medicine, herbs, and extra food to help the players maintain enough strength to win the trophy.”

The Vietnam Football Federation and some businesses have awarded a bonus of nearly 170,000  USD to the players and coaching staff. Most of the players on the U23 squad are 19 to 21 years old.
