WLP executive director honored with friendship order

PANO - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) presented a Friendship Order to Executive Director of the War Legacies Project (WLP) Susan Marie Hammond, daughter of a US veteran, in Hanoi on April 16.

Witnessing horrible effects of Agent Orange on US veterans and on the living environment and Vietnamese people in Vietnam, she is determined to make efforts to raise the public awareness of the long-lasting impacts and look for resources to support Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange.

Over the past 25 years, projects run by Susan Marie Hammond and WLP have benefited the recipients and contributed to healing the wounds of war. More significantly, the projects with financial support from US veterans and their families helped relieve the war's pain for both Vietnam and the US.

In order to recognize her considerable contributions to the development of the Vietnam-US friendship and people-to-people exchange, the Vietnamese State President decided to present the Friendship Order to Ms. Susan Marie Hammond.

Addressing the hand-over ceremony, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga highly appreciated the devotions of Hammond and WLP to Vietnam, adding that VUFO would accompany Hammond, WLP and other foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to foster friendship between Vietnam and countries around the world.

For her part, Hammond expressed her hope that Vietnam would soon address all consequences left behind by the war.
