World Bank adds 12 billion USD to mitigate global food crisis

The World Bank on Wednesday announced an additional 12 billion USD in funding to mitigate the devastating effects of the global food crisis, bringing the total capital for these projects to 30 billion USD. The World Bank said that as food shortages have been exacerbated by the conflict in Ukraine, the world’s most important grain producer, the additional funding will be for projects underway over 15 months to promote food and fertilizer production, facilitate trade, and support vulnerable households and producers.

Previously, the World Bank announced 18.7 billion USD for projects to be implemented over the next 15 months in Africa and the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and South Asia.
