World choirs compete in Hoi An

1,000 artists from 10 countries and territories have performed at the 6th Vietnam International Choir Competition which opened in Hoi An city on Wednesday.

21 choirs came from Vietnam, China, Estonia, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore and the US. Host Vietnam sent six choirs to the event. Participating choirs will take part in competitions at Hoi An Beach Resort on Thursday and Friday and a parade in the old quarter of Hoi An, and sample local culture through a reenactment of Hoi An in the 20th century and street art performances. Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of the Hoi An People's Committee, said: "We believe the singers will put on a fabulous performance and we hope they, in turn, will be impressed by the beauty and friendliness of Hoi An and its people."

The five-day choir festival is a joint production of Interkultur, the world's leading organizer of international choir competitions and festivals, and the Hoi An People's Committee.
