World Environment Day: UN calls for reducing use of plastic bags

The UN on Tuesday called for more effective implementation of restrictions on plastic use.

It said in a report marking the World Environment Day (June 5) that plastic bags bans have reduced plastic use in various countries, including Morocco, Rwanda, and China, but some are useless due to poor exercise. The report also called for measures to encourage enterprises and consumers to stop using plastic. Director of the UN's Environmental Programs Erik Solheim said plastic pollution is complicated, but solvable.
