World powers react to North Korea’s latest missile launch

Russia is "extremely worried" about tendency towards an escalation on the Korean peninsula.

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov made the statement on Tuesday, following North Korea's latest missile test.

During a Tuesday phone conversation, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump agreed to increase pressure on North Korea. They also shared a common view that China and Russia play a crucial role in resolving the North's issues. President Trump reiterated the US's commitments to protect Japan.

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in called for stepped up efforts on Tuesday to resume dialogue with North Korea. Presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun quoted Moon as saying that North Korea has made a missile provocation, and so it is necessary to bring about a change in the Korean relations.

Japan's Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said the Japanese military did not shoot down the missile, calling the test a non threat to Japan.
