17 Million Vietnamese Students To Return To School

About 17 million students across Vietnam are expected to return to school in the next few weeks, starting today after prolonged online learning, due to COVID-19, according to the country’s Ministry of Education and Training.

All 63 Vietnamese cities and provinces will resume in-person classes for secondary and high school students by Feb 14, local Chinhphu (Government) online newspaper, cited the ministry as reporting yesterday.

Meanwhile, 60 localities will reopen kindergartens and primary schools this month. All universities and colleges too, would have students returning to classes this month, according to the report.

In the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, the country’s current COVID-19 hotspot, face-to-face learning will be resumed from Thursday, for students from first to sixth grades, in 18 suburban districts and towns.

Students of grades one to six, in 12 urban districts, and those in high-risk areas, will continue to study online, while preschoolers will stay home.

For southern Ho Chi Minh City, about 1.7 million students of all grades are expected to return to school by Feb 14, according to the municipal Department of Education and Training. Kindergartens and primary schools in the city will reopen on Feb 14, with educational activities to be organised in accordance with the localities’ pandemic situation.
