Workshop marks 110th birthday of Party chief Nguyen Van Cu

Party General Secretary Nguyen Van Cu, an outstanding leader of the Vietnamese Party and revolution was highlighted at a workshop held in Bac Ninh province on Friday to mark his 110th birthday, July 9.

The event was organized by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Party Central Committee’s Communications and Education Commission and Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee.

Nguyen Van Cu was born on July 9, 1912 into a patriotic Confucian family in Phu Khe village, Tu Son district, Bac Ninh province. At the Party Central Committee meeting in March 1938, he was elected Party General Secretary when he was under 26 years of age. On January 18, 1940, he was arrested by French secret agents in Saigon. After the Nam Ky Uprising broke out on November 23, 1940, he was accused by the French of being responsible for the spirit of the uprising. On August 28, 1941, he heroically died of the enemy’s gunshots at a shooting range in Gia Dinh.

Addressing the workshop, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, said that although the life of Party General Secretary Nguyen Van Cu was short, it was beautiful. His great merits and glorious sacrifices have contributed to the glory of the nation and the Party. Party General Secretary Nguyen Van Cu was a staunch communist and an outstanding theoretician of the Vietnamese Party and revolution, he said.

VOV hosts national exchange program for Cheo fans

Fans of Cheo, a popular art form of the Vietnamese people for many generations, met on Friday evening in Quang Ninh province at the 7th National Exchange Program of Cheo Lovers organized by the Voice of Vietnam’s Music Department.

The Program which will run until Sunday features 118 unique Cheo performances by artists from northern provinces.

Mai Van Lang, Head of Folk Song Section, Music Department, Voice of Vietnam, said: “Over the past decades, Cheo art has always been preserved and developed. There was a time when Cheo faded away, fortunately, with Facebook and YouTube networks developing, Cheo lovers and Vietnamese people have sought to listen, deepen their understanding and learn more about Cheo singing. In the last seven years, thousands of Cheo lovers have been able to sing on stage and satisfy their passion. I see that more and more people who love Cheo are learning this art form more methodically.”

Cheo is a form of generally satirical musical theatre, often encompassing dance, traditionally performed by peasants in northern Vietnam.

2022 Miss Tourism Vietnam beauty pageant opens

The 2022 Miss Tourism Vietnam beauty pageant, which kicked off on Saturday in Hanoi aims to find an ambassador for Vietnam to take part in international tourism events. 

Nguyen Chien, Head of Nguyen Chien Law Firm, Chairman of the pageant advisory council, said, “The contestants should be beautiful inside out and have a deep knowledge about Vietnam’s land, people, culture, and history. They are also required to have a great understanding of seas and islands, an issue of great concern for the national government.”

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city are hosting the qualifying rounds until September 15. The application form is posted at hoahaudulichvietnam.com and its official Facebook page.

US Independence Day marked in Hanoi

The comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the US has flourished over the years, said Vietnam’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment at a ceremony in Hanoi on Friday marking the 246th Independence Day of the US.

The event was hosted by US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, who said recent visits by senior leaders of the two countries and a visit to Vietnam by US Vice President Kamala Harris in 2021 has created a driving force to strengthen political, diplomatic and trust-building dialogue between Vietnam and the US, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Minister Tran Hong Ha thanked the US government and people for giving Vietnam COVID-19 vaccines and medical equipment. He said he hopes the US will cooperate and support Vietnam to fulfill its commitments on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and invest in green transformation in Vietnam.

Vietnamese cultural heritages exhibited in Quang Nam

An exhibition of Vietnam’s cultural heritage space opened on Friday in Hoi An city in the central province of Quang Nam.

The six-day exhibition features 160 photos of UNESCO-recognized heritages and national special relic sites in Vietnam and also introduces images and items from traditional craft villages across the country.

As part of the exhibition is an exchange art program highlighting Vietnamese folk art and culture.

As an activity to welcome the Visit Vietnam Year 2022 hosted by Quang Nam under the theme of green tourism, the exhibition has drawn participation of nearly 30 cities and provinces and will run until next Wednesday.

Dalat Flower Association and naval soldiers build agricultural greenhouses

Da Lat Flower Association together with officers and soldiers of Brigade 162, Naval Region 4 have held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of agricultural greenhouses for growing vegetables, in Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province.  

Built on an area of 800 m2, the house is constructed with an iron frame and covered with the vinyl roof, and there is an insect net. The irrigation water and soluble fertilizer system is designed to automatically spray.

The project is being built by the association’s agricultural experts and brigade officers and soldiers.

G20 meeting: South Korea, US, Japan FMs agree to bolster cooperation

The top diplomats of South Korea, the US and Japan talked in Indonesia where they agreed to step up cooperation against North Korea’s threats and make efforts to resume dialogue with Pyongyang. 

South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, who took office in May, held his first tripartite meeting with his US and Japanese counterparts, Antony Blinken and Yoshimasa Hayashi, on the resort island of Bali, on the sideline of the G20 meeting.

The three ministers agreed to make efforts to bring a united, firm response from the global community against North Korea’s provocation and closely coordinate based on a flexible, open diplomatic approach to bring Pyongyang back to dialogue, according to a statement of the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

The foreign ministers also discussed measures to expand security cooperation between the three countries, and reaffirmed the importance of trilateral cooperation to address regional and global challenges.
