Hanoi ensures safe and stable power supply

A meeting, chaired by Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee and Head of the Steering Committee for Electricity Development in Hanoi, was held on February 15th to assess the progress of electricity development in 2022 and to establish goals and plans for 2023.

In 2022, the city successfully achieved its targets for electricity supply, contributing to the remarkable economic growth of the capital after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The focus was on ensuring a safe, stable and uninterrupted power supply to support the successful hosting of important political, diplomatic, cultural, and social events in the capital and the whole country.

The commercial electricity output by the end of 2022 was over 22 billion kWh, which is almost 8% more than that in 2021. The loss in transmission decreased by 0.2% to 3.35% compared to the previous year. The medium voltage grid’s average outage time was 124.18 minutes, and customer service was improved considerably. Moreover, the reliability of the power supply improved significantly, and the number of power grid failures, including both 110kV and medium and low voltage, was the lowest among Power Corporations.

Hanoi Electric Power (EVNHANOI) led in the research and deployment of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), enhancing the customer experience and keeping pace with the advanced countries in the world.

EVNHANOI has demonstrated a strong commitment to incorporating science and technology into all areas of operation. Various digital transformation programs and tasks have been completed, including the digitization of dispatching work, implementation of digital control systems, automatic administration, 100% of online provision of electricity services, completion of the Customer Care Ecosystem, application of advanced technology and electronic records in project management, digitization of contractor selection, human resource management, and modernizing office systems.

Furthermore, the company has also prioritized the investment and construction of electricity works, addressing violations of safety corridors of high-voltage power grids, providing electricity to rural areas, managing electricity prices for motels, and developing new and renewable energy sources. These aspects have been well-coordinated and timely handled to ensure the public’s peace of mind.

At the conference, representatives from agencies, departments, branches, districts, and towns gathered to discuss electricity development, manage the implementation of electricity development plans, and address difficulties encountered in implementing power projects.

According to Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for electricity development, remarkable progress has been made in the development of electricity, ensuring the demand for electricity in daily life, production, and business in the region, as well as supporting political and other essential events.

For 2023, specific and detailed plans are necessary to ensure that Hanoi has an adequate supply of electricity, review the electricity development plan for the coming years, and allocate land resources for electricity development at the local level. Furthermore, there is a need for coordination with central agencies and Hanoi to develop a general power development plan to integrate into the capital construction planning.

In his concluding speech at the conference, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen stated that the city’s electricity development in 2022 had made significant progress. EVNHANOI continues to be the leading power unit in the country, as demonstrated by the investment and development of electricity-related indicators and parameters that meet the needs of production and business development, thereby enhancing the image of the capital.

To improve the task of ensuring a stable electricity supply in 2023, Quyen proposed that the electricity sector coordinates with multiple agencies to prioritize the resolution of difficulties and problems. The Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and EVNHANOI should also establish policies to reward and encourage timely units and individuals who have contributed to the development of electricity.
