Hanoi holds dialogue with local businesses

The authority of Hanoi held a dialogue with local businesses on November 6 to seek measures to tackle difficulties facing them amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was chaired by Politburo member, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Head of the city’s National Assembly deputies delegation Dinh Tien Dung.

In attendance were member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party and Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh; Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen; Deputy Minister of Planning Investment Tran Duy Dong; and Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Hoang Quang Phong.

Delivering his opening speech at the meeting, Hanoi Secretary Dinh Tien Dung thanked businesses, organizations and individuals at home and abroad for their support for the city’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic as well as socio-economic development and social security.

Stressing that the municipal authorities has always seen the business community as the key driver for socio-economic development, Dung informed that Hanoi  is focusing its efforts on strengthening administrative reform, improving business environment and dealing with legal bottlenecks in administrative reforms so as to promote businesses’ sustainable and rapid development.

According to the Party chief, Hanoi is home to 201,000 enterprises, the second-largest number nationwide and accounting for 23.7% of total operational businesses in the country.

The business community has been a significant force which helps Hanoi to contribute 16% of the GDP, 18.5% of the state budget collection, and 8.6% of the total trade turnover.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented challenges, causing serious impacts on production and business activities, and taking a heavy toll on the city’s socio-economic development.

In the first nine months of the year, the city’s GRDP increased by only 1.28% against the same period of last year, lower than the city’s plan.

Many business and production activities were suspended. Several supply chains of goods and services were interrupted. Local firms coped with various challenges in trade.

Dung told the conference that the municipal authorities are doing their utmost to implement synchronous measures to effectively control the pandemic and help local enterprises overcome the difficulties to maintain and restore production and business activities.

Particularly, Hanoi has waived, lowered, and extended taxes and land rental fees payment worth VND22.6 trillion (US$1 billion) for 38,000 enterprises.

In the coming time, the municipal authorities will work hard to remove difficulties and problems for businesses, solve bottlenecks and inadequacies in terms of mechanisms, policies, and administrative procedures to enhance the capital city’s economic development and recovery.

With the effort of the entire political system, Dung expressed his belief that the business community would overcome all difficulties and soon recover production and business, making great contribution to the country and the city’s development.
