Hanoi Peace Conference opens

 The Hanoi Peace Conference, held on the occasion of the 22nd Congress of the World Peace Council, took place on Friday in Hanoi. Uong Chu Luu, Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee, told the event: “The Vietnam Peace Committee hopes that the World Peace Council will continue to strengthen the solidarity and unity among its member organizations, expand the link and gather more progressive democratic forces to fight for peace, cooperation, fairness, and sustainable development in the world.”

Mr. Luu called on the World Peace Council to strengthen initiatives and anti-war activities, prevent conflicts and arms race, demand the elimination of weapons of mass destruction, unite with the peoples of countries struggling for peace, independence, democracy and social progress, and promote the compliance with international law and the UN Charter.

Participants discussed current political-security developments at the Hanoi Peace Conference along with impacts on peace, stability, and security in the region and in the world.
