Hanoi’s Health Department confirmed eight new COVID-19 cases from 6pm on October 3 and 6pm on October 4, including seven infections related to the Vietnam-German Friendship Hospital.

Of the figure, four new cases were reported in Hoan Kiem and one each in Nam Tu Liem, Ung Hoa, Gia Lam and Dong Anh districts.

Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital has now emerged as  the biggest COVID-19 cluster in Hanoi.  COVID-19 cases related to the hospital have been referred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for treatment.

Since the four wave of COVID-19 hit the country on April 29, Hanoi has documented 4,010 COVID-19 cases, including 1,603  found in the community.

Regarding the coronavirus outbreak in Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital, a total of 33 cases have been found since September 30. Of them, 17 infections were reported in the capital city, 16 in other provinces.

The city’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) and relevant agencies have collected more than 16,800 samples of people who  either visited  or worked at the hospital.

At a meeting between the city’s Department of Health, Centre of Disease Control and Vietnam-German Friendship Hospital on October 4, leaders of the hospital proposed transferring patients to other hospitals in Hanoi.

It is expected that about 200 people will be moved to Hanoi Medical University Hospital while Thanh Nhan Hospital and Duc Giang Hospital will receive 450 and 350, respectively.

Hanoi called on local people to strictly abide by the 5K message and countermeasures set by the Ministry of Health so as to soon put the pandemic under control.

Those showing symptoms of cough, sore throat, high body temperature, fatigue, reduction or loss of taste are required to contact with the nearest medical facility for COVID-19 testing to timely deter community transmission.
