NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hosts British Ambassador to Vietnam

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hosted a reception in Hanoi yesterday for British Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward.

He hailed the fine developments between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the British Parliament over the past years. The two sides have maintained delegation exchanges at all levels, as well as meetings and consultations at multilateral parliamentary forums, especially at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership. Emphasizing that the effective cooperation between the two legislative bodies is an important factor contributing to further promoting the Vietnam – UK Strategic Partnership, Mr. Hue showed his wish that Ambassador Gareth will continue to act as a bridge strengthening the bilateral ties, and propose cooperation activities towards the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2023.

Mr. Gareth stressed the potential for cooperation between the two legislatures in such areas as improving transparency in public governance, building a legal framework for the digital economy, and developing high technology.

Ambassador Gareth Ward thanked National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for sending congratulatory messages to Lord Speaker of the House of Lords John McFall and Speaker of the British House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, which marks her 70 year of rein.

The British Ambassador said that climate change is an important global issue today. The British Government highly appreciates Vietnam’s commitment at COP26 and sustainable and green development orientations that Vietnam is making efforts to implement. This is an important foundation for promoting cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.
