Public Sector Innovation Index (PII) framework piloted

The National Innovation Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the UNDP co-organized a conference today on innovation in the public sector and introduced the Public Sector Innovation Index (PII) framework. The participants discussed the initial research results and solutions to boost innovation in the public sector in Vietnam in the future.

Vu Quoc Huy, Director of the National Innovation Center, said: “It’s necessary to have a Public Sector Innovation Index (PII) framework, particularly in the rapid digitalized economy. NIC and the UNDP co-organize this workshop to realize Vietnam’s aspirations, guidelines, and orientations of innovation through activities to develop innovation ecosystems and renovate the growth model based on science and technology development.”

The Public Sector Innovation Index (PII) in Vietnam is part of the Innovation Framework for the People under the Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI), which receives major funding from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

James Dean, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, said: “Australia is committed to support Vietnam in innovation agenda. Innovation continues to be the key goal of achieving Vietnam’s high income aspiration by 2045. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh calls for innovation to have great contributions to addressing emerging economic, societal, and institutional challenges. Innovation is one of the key pillars under Australia’s strategic partnership with Vietnam.”
