Vietnam calls for dialogue toward peaceful solution for Myanmar people’s benefit

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese Mission to the UN, has voiced concern over violent clashes, the destruction of offices and civil infrastructure, and Myanmar’s 3rd wave of COVID-19.

Addressing the UN Security Council’s closed-door meeting to seek a solution to the crisis in Myanmar on Tuesday. Ambassador Quy urged all parties to engage in meaningful dialogue to seek a comprehensive and long-term solution that will benefit Myanmar’s people. He emphasized that the situation calls for a strong commitment and effort by all sides, which respects the basic principles of international law and the UN Charter, and Myanmar’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

Vietnam’s Ambassador mentioned ASEAN’s recent efforts, stating that ASEAN members have been working hard to address humanitarian issues, halt the violence, and assist Myanmar in a constructive manner. He called on Security Council members and the international community to continue providing humanitarian aid, medical assistance, and vaccine aid through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management.
