Vietnam, New Zealand discuss potential for stronger defense ties

Vietnamese Defense Minister Phan Van Giang spoke on the phone with his New Zealand counterpart Peeni Henare on Wednesday.

The two sides affirmed that their countries have great potential and conditions to boost defense ties, especially on the basis of the bilateral strategic partnership. They agreed to work out cooperative plans and strengthen contacts and exchanges of delegations. They will set up a dialogue channel between defense officials and scholars, promote cooperation in training, cybersecuirty, search and rescue, and research in infectious diseases. They will enhance the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation in UN Peacekeeping Operation.

The two Defense Ministries will work out a Cooperative Plan for the next three years to bring bilateral defense ties on par with the Vietnam-New Zealand Strategic Partnership.
